It has been a distinct honor to serve as your elected Sheriff of Kitsap County for almost 12 years. The Sheriff’s Office was established in 1857 when Washington was part of the Oregon Territory. Its basic Mission has remained intact through the challenges of time—Peace & Safety for All Citizens.  

The opportunity to serve our citizens for 38 years as a member of the Washington State Patrol and the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office has been very rewarding and I’m even more excited about continuing to serve you in the future. My experience on the front lines has provided me with a deep knowledge of all aspects of law enforcement. It was followed by management and leadership roles that have provided me with an opportunity to make a positive difference in our community. The combined experience gives me a profound sense of purpose and a vision to develop a world-class Sheriff’s Office for the citizens of Kitsap County.  

I strongly believe in important values including acting with integrity and demonstrating respect. Personal responsibility is the key to success and helps to achieve solutions in the best interest of all concerned. It is the trademark of a character-based organization such as your Sheriff’s Office. I am confident that our 250 dedicated employees and hundreds of volunteers will stay on course and will continue to deliver superior public safety services for you and your family. I am exceptionally proud of our deputies and staff because they frequently exceed my high expectations of service to our community.

With strong leadership, strong results were achieved in 2005 as we continued to introduce dramatic changes to shape our future and ensure a safer community. A sampling of Sheriff Office achievements include:

• 9/10 years of decreasing crime rates across the county
• Successfully attacking the scourge of methamphetamine
• Professional management of a 27 million dollar budget
• Major enhancements in technology, programs and staffing
• High quality training
• A highly professional jail operation and construction project
• Targeted crime prevention collaborations with loca municipal, state and federal agencies

My commitment to our community is to provide the highest level of service by the Sheriff’s Office as possible. Our members can be proud of where they work and our citizens can be equally proud of their Sheriff’s Office. Kitsap County deserves the best in law enforcement. I hope you will join with others in our community to re-elect me to a 4th term as your Sheriff. Together we can continue our Mission of Peace and Safety for All Citizens.
